2 Seafood Specialties

Some of the most delicious foods come from the sea, needless to say that they are also some of the healthiest. Here are two of our favorite seafood recipes.

Calamari with gnocchi

• 400 g of cleaned calamari
• 150 g of cleaned spinach
• 5 carrots
• 300 g of cheese
• 250 g of flour
• 150 ml of white wine
• 1 egg
• 50 g of corn flour,
• 5 cloves of garlic
• oil
• salt and ground black pepper

Cut carrots into semicircles and cook them in salted water in a saucepan on the stove. Drain them through a strainer and place in a deep bowl. Take two ladles of water in which they cooked and add them to the bowl with carrots, blend it all together. Add cheese and corn flour, then add 150 g flour, salt and pepper.


Break an egg, put egg white aside and add the yolk into a deeper dish. Add mixture for gnocchi, knead by hand and gradually add the remaining flour to get the medium-hard dough. Put dough on a floured work surface. Sprinkle it with flour and make thicker crust with a rolling pin. Cut stripes 2 cm wide. Cut the stripes into pieces, then roll them in the flour and make gnocchi.

Add oil in boiling and salted water in a saucepan and put the gnocchi to cook. Pull cooked gnocchi from the pan with a spoon. Open package of calamari and cut them in half lengthwise. Fry garlic in hot oil and when cooked remove it from the pan.

In the same pan put calamari to fry, stir, add salt and pepper. Put the garlic back and add the wine. When the wine evaporates, finely cut the chard, add it to the pan and stir. Add gnocchi as well. When gnocchi takes on the taste of calamari, remove the pan from the stove. Put calamari with gnocchi on a plate for serving.

Hake made the Roman way

• 6 hake roll fillets
• 1 onion
• parsley
• 100 ml of cream
• 6 sheets of cleaned spinach
• 70g of feta cheese
• 1 lemon
• 50 g of butter
• 1 1/2 tablespoon of mustard
• oil
• salt and ground black pepper

Put salt and pepper on hake circles. Squeeze lemon through a strainer. Use half of the lemon juice to sprinkle hake circles and coat them with mustard. Cut feta cheese into 3 pieces. Put slice of cheese between two circles of hake coated with mustard. Make sandwiches.

Boil spinach leaves in a saucepan with boiling water on the stove and drain it. Wrap a hake sandwich in two sheets of spinach. We prepare the remaining hake in the same way. Put them in a drainer over the boiling water on the stove. After 25 min of steaming take of the stove.

Cut the onion finely and fry it in the mixture of heated oil and butter in a pan. When onions soften, add 200 ml of water and remaining lemon juice. Finely cut the parsley and add it to the pan, add salt, pepper and stir. When the contents of the pan start to boil, add cream and stir constantly. When sauce reaches the required density, remove the pan from the stove. Apply the sauce on a plate for serving. Put hake on top, decorate with circles of red pepper and lemon. Sprinkle it with oil.
